Online Coding Challenge, image

On Wednesday, 7 October, we held the first Online Coding Challenge with micro:bit devices. Given the still unstable situation with the Covid-19 virus, we wanted to protect the health of all students, teachers, jury members and our colleagues, and we decided to organize application process as well as competition itself digitally.

The winning project is called "Smart Solar Panels", and it was made by students Dino Zukić and Kenan Avdić, under the mentorship of teacher Miralem Bajrić. The goal of the project is energy efficiency, environmental protection as well as environmental lighting through solar energy. 

Elementary school "Mejdan" from Tuzla won second place with a project called "Seevoice", and it was made by students Haris Osmanović and Mirza Salamović under the mentorship of teacher Alisa Pejić. This humane project is intended for students, but also for all other people with hearing impairments. Its purpose is tofacilitate participation in regular classes and improve work learning environment. 

Students Dino Softić and Adnan Ademović from the elementary school "Sjenjak", also from Tuzla, created the project "Automatic regulation of lighting in school classrooms" under the mentorship of Zlatan Mehikić. This project won a high third place. Their motivation for creating this project is saving energy in every classroom in the school by using micro:bits and LDR sensors.

Students of the following primary schools also participated in the final round of the competition: "Bukinje" (Tuzla), "Desanka Maksimović" (Trn), "Gnojnica" (Gnojnica), "Kreka" (Tuzla), "Podorašje" (Podorašje), "Solina" ( Tuzla) and "Saint Sava" (Novi Grad).

The online event was opened by the Ambassador of the United Kingdom, N.E. Matthew Field and Minister Natalija Trivić, Minister of Education and Culture in the Government of Republika Srpska.
